The representatives of an investment company based in India, has visited Tanzania as part of ongoing follow-up to the initial discussions held during a study tour in India in November 2025. During the tour, preliminary engagements were held with the company, and it was agreed that upon return to Tanzania, the PPP Centre and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) would provide additional information to support further dialogue on potential investments in City Gas Distribution and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) projects.

HCG Gas Ltd also committed to sending a representative to Tanzania for on-ground consultations.

On 4 December 2025, Rekha Sharma, representing HCG Gas Ltd, met with TPDC Investment Manager Godbless Robiam at TPDC headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

 The meeting focused on exploring investment opportunities in household gas distribution under the City Gas Distribution project, as well as CNG solutions for vehicles in Tanzania.

During the discussions, HCG Gas Ltd submitted an initial and unofficial Expression of Interest (EOI) outlining its proposed approach to implementing City Gas Distribution and CNG infrastructure. 

TPDC will review the submission and, where appropriate, provide further guidance for continued engagement.

Sharma’s visit marks a direct continuation of the collaboration initiated in India. The earlier study tour—financially supported by the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Centre—featured participation from Emmanuel Masawe and Eng. Mohamed Fakihi, who were tasked with acquiring knowledge on gas distribution and identifying investors interested in undertaking City Gas Distribution projects under PPP arrangements in Tanzania.

The ongoing discussions are expected to pave the way for a PPP-based City Gas Distribution Project, in which HCG Gas Ltd would partner with TPDC to develop gas distribution networks from anchor gas sources to households, while also establishing CNG infrastructure for vehicle use.
