THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has postponed its Central Committee meeting, which was scheduled to make final selections of candidates for party primaries today, to July 28, 2025, citing the need for more time to scrutinize applicants.
Speaking to journalists in Dodoma today July 19, 2025, CCM’s, Secretary for ideology, publicity and training Amos Makala, explained that since the schedule was internally set, the party retains the flexibility to adjust it.
"We are the ones who issued the schedule, and this is an internal party process. You’re all witnesses—just for councilor positions alone, there are over 27,000 applicants; for parliamentary seats, over 10,000. It’s a large number of people. Reviewing all the CVs requires time and thorough vetting."
"We promised that our party would release the best manifesto, better than any other parties. We also pledged to field the best candidates, so we are not bound by any rigid timeline," he added.
