ACT-Wazalendo, Central Committee in a special meeting held yesterday, August 5, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, has proposed names of presidential candidates for Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
For the Mainland presidential seat, the nominees are Aaron Kalikawe and Luhaga Mpina, who recently defected from the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
For the Zanzibar presidential seat, the sole nominee is Othman Masoud Othman, who is also the party's National Chairperson and the First Vice President of Zanzibar.
According to a statement issued today, August 6, by the party’s Secretary for Information, Ideology, and Public Communications, Shangwe Ayo, the proposed names will be presented to the National Congress for voting.
In another development, the Central Committee approved the decision by the party's leader, Dorothy Semu, to withdraw her candidacy for the presidency. Semu stated that she made this decision as part of her leadership responsibility to empower the party in its mission to unseat CCM from power in the 2025 General Election, considering the current political landscape in the country.
