THE parliamentary candidate for Meatu constituency under the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Salum Khamis, has called for the area to be prioritised in efforts to resolve the ongoing challenge of accessing clean and safe water.

Khamis made the appeal yesterday during a campaign rally led by CCM’s  Presidential runningmate , Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi.

He urged Dr Nchimbi to pass on the request to CCM's Presidential candidate, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to Khamis, Meatu faces the most acute water shortages in the Simiyu Region when compared to other constituencies.

While acknowledging that the CCM election manifesto intends to address the issue in its second phase, he appealed to the government to consider including Meatu in the first phase to ensure a more immediate solution.

He further noted that residents of Meatu have taken the initiative to combat the crisis by digging shallow wells and installing water pumps — measures that are helping to provide water for daily use.
