THE ruling party (CCM) is preparing to raise 100bn/- in a fundraising drive to support its campaigns for the General Election scheduled at the end of this year.
The party’s Secretary General, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, announced during a press briefing with editors that the fundraising which is to be held today, aims to encourage every party members to take an active role in advancing the party’s development.
“We want to demonstrate the example of a strong party that actively involves its members in the progress and growth of the party,” he said.
As the party ramps up preparations for the campaign, Dr Nchimbi explained that both financial resources and human capital are critical.
The funds raised so far from members will be channelled toward the purchase of campaign materials including t-shirts, caps, khangas, vests, and other promotional items.
To date, CCM has digitally registered 13.19 million members. The party expects the upcoming fundraiser to significantly boost resources to sustain a vigorous campaign.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to attend the event as the guest of honour, highlighting the significance of the occasion. The party leadership has framed the fundraiser as a crucial platform for members to demonstrate their unity, strength, and commitment.
“Tomorrow is the day for members to demonstrate their strength in contributing towards the development of the country and their party,” Dr Nchimbi said.
He noted a palpable enthusiasm among party members, many of whom expressed pride in their participation.
Addressing concerns over external funding, Dr Nchimbi assured that CCM will maintain strict oversight over donations, rejecting contributions from outsiders that undermine Tanzanian dignity or have questionable motives.
“We will carefully manage contributions from outsiders and reject those that demean the honour and dignity of Tanzanians,” he said.
Dr Nchimbi also stressed that the party does not engage in auctions or other coercive methods to raise campaign funds. Instead, all members are given an equal opportunity to contribute voluntarily.
He concluded by underscoring that every contribution, whether large or small, will be respected and accepted in the spirit of solidarity.
“The honour of our party is priceless and cannot be sold. We welcome all well-meaning individuals to contribute towards our shared goals,” he said.
