An EICHER bus with registration number T 284 EFJ, owned by the Teachers' Union in Misungwi , District caught fire while transporting fans of the National Football Team to the opening of the 2025 CHAN tournament in Dar es Salaam.

The incident occurred at 6:58 a.m.today July 31 in the Bushini area, Malenve Ward, Kwimba District, Mwanza Region.

The bus was carrying 45 passengers, all of whom escaped unharmed.

Mwanza Regional Police Commander DCP Wilbrod Mutafungwa confirmed the incident, stating that the vehicle started emitting heavy smoke before bursting into flames.

Upon noticing the danger, the driver stopped the bus and ensured that all passengers disembarked safely before the fire spread.

“No fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident. The Police Force thanks the citizens who responded swiftly and helped save lives before police and firefighters arrived,” said Mutafungwa.

He added that preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the vehicle, and further investigations are ongoing in collaboration with other government authorities.
