BENOIT Araman, Managing Director of Oryx Gas Tanzania Ltd has emphasized the need for Tanzanians to shift to clean energy to improve their lives.

He was speaking in Dar es Salaam recently at the launch of the Pika Kijanja campaign whereas he noted that the long-standing discussions on access to clean cooking, has now become a reality under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

“We are committed to support the government’s vision of achieving 80 percent clean energy access by 2034. By promoting clean cooking solutions, our company is playing a crucial role in transforming the country’s energy landscape and improving the quality of life for its citizens,” added Araman.

He said they are now focusing on food vendors as they play a vital role in feeding communities, adding that success of the clean cooking campaign depends on their support and commitment.

“Oryx Gas is dedicated to training food vendors on the safe use of LPG, helping them shift from traditional cooking methods to cleaner, safer options,” he said.

According to him, the use of clean energy has a number of benefits to the community, especially women, whereas it saves 33,000 people who are dying every year from the inhalation of smoke and particles coming from charcoal and firewood.

Cooking with gas prevents deforestation, therefore helps protect the environment as well as preventing women from being exposed to dangers in the forests and wildlife and bad encounters with other people.

Moving from biomass energy such as firewood and charcoal to gas is transforming the country for a better life for its communities and citizens, he added.
