RESIDENTS of Jeshini Street in Maguvani Ward have expressed strong support for the construction of a new truck terminal, saying it will create economic opportunities and attract investments.
Locals told reporters that the terminal will drive more traffic and activity to the area, benefiting small-scale vendors and service providers. “The project will create jobs for youth and attract investors to establish modern guest houses and hotels,” said resident Zakayo Ndalawa.
Another resident Baraka Chatanda added that the terminal will increase local revenues and improve the town’s profile. “We urge the government to construct modern stalls for vendors, as this project will significantly enhance our economy,” Chatanda said.
Jeshini Street chairperson Fahad Sambala noted that the terminal’s completion will uplift local livelihoods, and he urged timely project delivery. Makambako Town Council director, Kenneth Haule, said the terminal, with capacity for 100 trucks, is expected to be operational by July, this year. He encouraged residents to formalise land plots to facilitate urban planning and development.
The 2bn/- project includes business stalls and garages, with 850m/- allocated for the first phase. Haule emphasised that the terminal is part of a broader initiative to attract industries, build modern markets, and improve transport infrastructure.
