REGIONAL and district commissioners across the country need to take action against individuals who threaten the nation's peace through illegal political activities.
Mohamed Mchengerwa, the Regional Administration and Local Governments state minister in the President's Office (PO-RALG), issued this directive in public meetings in Mbeya as well as Chunya over the weekend.
He said that some individuals have been inciting unrest, collaborating with puppets to undermine the long-standing peace of the nation. Top regional and district officials have the legal authority to deal with anyone who jeopardizes national security, and any RC or DC failing to do so would not be fit to remain in that position, he stated.
"The peace in our country has been protected for many years, and it is part of the heritage left by our founding leaders. Now, some citizens are trying to stir trouble in collaboration with their puppets. It is your duty, as regional and district commissioners, to control these individuals," he firmly declared.
Leaders who fail to prevent unrest in their regions would be replaced. "If anyone fails to control disturbances in their area, I will advise their removal. You have been trusted with these positions; now fulfill your responsibilities," the minister intoned.
The government’s goal is to ensure that citizens can peacefully engage in economic activities such as farming, trade and mining, he said, praising the government for implementing various projects improving access to essential services such as health, education and water, made possible by safeguarding the peace.
Appealing to residents to maintain support for the government in maintaining peace and stability, he stressed that without peace nothing can be achieved, evident in countries experiencing prolonged unrest.
Patrick Mwalunenge, the ruling party regional chairman, outlined the party's ongoing preparations for the general election, despite withdrawal notices by a leading opposition party.
Lauding the government for its successful implementation of development projects, he said that this effort is aligned with the party’s election manifesto and will help in the forthcoming campaigns.
Juma Homera, the regional commissioner, pointed at excellent collaboration between government institutions and the party regional secretariat, asserting that it has facilitated smooth implementation of development projects. The regional administration will maintain its oversight on the projects to ensure they fully benefit residents of the region, he added.
