NJOMBE Regional Police have arrested 107 individuals in connection with various offences, including murder, motorcycle theft, and violations of traffic and safety regulations.

The arrests followed a large-scale crackdown carried out in June, according to Njombe Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mahamoud Banga, who briefed reporters late last week.

Commander Banga stated that those arrested were found in possession of a range of items, including seven smartphones, a Toyota Altezza vehicle, two televisions, 16 phone chargers, 153 counterfeit receipts, and 12 assorted mobile phone cases.

Other items recovered included three motorcycles, two motorcycle starters, five metal-cutting drills, seven boxes of soap, two tyre levers, one water pump, three mobile phone batteries, a power bank, and a single business licence.

In a related incident, four individuals were arrested at a guest house in Njombe after entering the country without proper documentation. They are suspected of obtaining money through fraudulent means.

“The suspects were found with 1.5m/- cash, six large smartphones, and a number of new SIM cards. They will be brought before the court once investigations are complete,” said Commander Banga.

He also reported the arrest of two residents of Mtapa Village in Wanging’ombe District, Elisha Ngilangwa (29) and Elia Mwinuka (24), who were found in possession of a motorcycle and other items believed to be stolen.

The police have urged Njombe residents to refrain from criminal activity and instead engage in lawful, income-generating ventures.

Commander Banga reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to taking decisive action against anyone involved in criminal conduct.
