THE drama and bold declarations that characterized the race for the presidency of the Tanzania Teachers’ Union (TTU) have come to an end, with teacher Suleiman Ikomba emerging victorious after decisively defeating the incumbent president, Leah Ulaya.
The two contenders had captured the attention of teachers and Tanzanians at large, given their previous positions—Ulaya as President and Ikomba as her Vice President.
Their spirited campaigns echoed across the streets and within the Jakaya Kikwete Hall, which was under tight security for three consecutive days, manned by the Police Force and Suma JKT.
The chairperson of the electoral committee, Halima Liveta, announced early this morning that Suleiman Mathew Ikomba garnered 608 votes against Leah Ulaya’s 260, with one vote declared invalid.
She further noted that although 914 voters had registered for the election, only 868 cast their ballots.
