THE Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has urged farmers to follow the instructions of extension officers to use the required inputs, a measure that will help obtain quality crops that do not affect human health.
The advice was given over the weekend by TBS southern zone manager, Abel Mwakasonda, when speaking to journalists at the Nane Farmers Exhibition held at Ngongo grounds in Lindi region.
He said there is training that farmers are educated by extension officers in their farms or in their gardens when using input chemicals, there is a specific time that the inputs should be exhausted, so when they harvest and sell to consumers, the products are safe and do not affect them.
"Therefore, we ask farmers to follow the instructions of extension officers because they have special training and have a good understanding that enables the products to be safe," said Mwakasonda.
He said they participated in the exhibition this year with the aim of continuing to provide education to all Tanzanians involved in the production of various products as well as doing business to ensure that they comply with the requirements of standards.
"Our goal is to ensure that all Tanzanians can use quality products," he said.
He said the exhibition was a good opportunity for Tanzanians, especially those from the Southern Regions, who came to the TBS pavilion at the Ngongo grounds in Lindi Region, as they were able to obtain education that alleviates the concerns of producers and traders in general.
"Therefore, all those who came to our pavilion got basic information and avoided being informed by other people who are probably their competitors who can give them incorrect information," he said.
Mwakasonda urged producers who want to obtain information about the quality and safety of their products not to hesitate to come to the TBS offices.
In addition, he urged producers who produce products to satisfy themselves that they are safe must come to TBS so that they can use the organisation's laboratories.
"But when someone fails to adhere to the procedures they have been instructed, it becomes difficult to succeed, but we are grateful that many follow the instructions," he said, adding that when producers follow the instructions they are given, they will not be able to fail to produce quality products.
