CARAVANS A’s cricketers have opened their campaign in the TCA DC Super League-20 Overs 2025 in grand fashion following the side's 72-run victory over Gymkhana at Dar es Salaam's Gymkhana Club venue recently.
The tie's eventual winners' depth in batting had them comfortably garnering the victory, as they set up an imposing score and efficiently defended it later on.
The talented Akhil Anil (pictured) put in a Player of the Match showing at the crease for Caravans A, as they made their quest for a successful spell in the league known.
The Jitin Singh-led Caravans A took the crease first and put up a mammoth 202/6 in their 20 overs, with their top order cricketers living up to their expectations.
Anil's 52 runs notched at a strike rate of 200.00 set the ball rolling for the batting side, with fellow players- Singh and Adersh Dileep- putting in equally great batting figures.
Singh was five runs short of a half-century, and Dileep ended up with 31 runs that included three boundaries.
Praveen Puthanpurayil, who opened the innings, made his way back with 21 runs, and Akash Chandran had Caravans A keeping on piling more runs, having posted 16 runs.
The Caravans A's total proved they were hardly unfazed by opener Shabani Hamisi's short stay, which witnessed the player ending two runs short of two digits.
Youthful player Salmini Yusuph also aided his club's efforts to amass a bigger figure, having ended with 10 runs not out.
They moreover somewhat improved their total through the 19 extras that Gymkhana had leaked when they fielded.
Mohammed Yunus was the sole bowler who managed to make his presence felt for Gymkhana, winding his bowling quota with 2-28.
The Amit Raghuvanshi-led Gymkhana, despite playing at a familiar turf, lost steam when aiming for a chase of the 203-run target, managing to garner 130/10 in 19.5 overs.
Their chase endured an early setback, given skipper Raghuvanshi, coming in as an opener, exited with mere eight runs.
Abdulrazak Mohamed, who opened the innings with the skipper, posted 27 runs at a strike rate of 128.57, aiming at giving Gymkhana stability after the early wobble.
They were once again pegged back by two early exits of reliable performers, Yunus and Tanmay Das, with neither of the duo ending up with two-digit figures.
Gymkhana's Pankaj Vats and Hamisi Lyimo had the side seeking to exhibit a fight back, as Vats posted 23 runs at a strike rate of 176.92 and Lyimo notched 25 runs.
There was not much that the other Gymkhana batsmen could do, given Caravans A's bowling unit mercilessly kept on tormenting the former.
Caravans A's Anil played spoilsport for Gymkhana, weakening the latter's resolve after securing 4-15. Jonathan Nyambo was equally in great form for the fielding squad, ending up with 3-31.
The TCA DC Super League- 20 Overs 2025, which has brought together nine participants, has the clubs featuring in 20-over ties that are held at the Leaders Club and Gymkhana Club venues.
The clubs taking part in the league are Caravans A, Aga Khan SC A, Delaware Upanga SC-A, Pak Stars A, and Patel Brotherhood A.
Gymkhana, Aces A, Dar Indian Titans, and Lions A conclude the lineup of the showdown's top honour contenders.
