MOROGORO Women's cricketers have bolstered their quest for silverware in the TCA Women's National League 2025, having trounced Gairo Women by 42 runs in Morogoro recently.
Top-order batters had a great game for Morogoro Women in the high-scoring clash, held at the SUA venue, crucially playing a part in the team's triumph.
Having secured a chance to bat first, the Zulfa Hussein-led Morogoro Women did not waste time making their desire to wind up with a convincing score known after securing 142/8 in the scheduled 20 overs.
They comfortably dealt with a slight setback, which came in the form of an early dismissal of an opener, Tuliana Essau, as the fellow top-order batters played confident knocks, which brought stability in the squad.
Tuliana, one of the best batters so far for Morogoro Women in the showpiece, had a relatively brief spell against Gairo Women - making her way back with just a run from four knocks.
Shania Fikiri, slotted in at number five, played an extremely crucial innings for the batting team, scoring 34 runs not out at a strike rate of 113.33.
She was eventually the cricketer boasting a bigger number of runs in the innings, returning with bat in hand after 30 knocks.
Asha Ally was equally impressive at the crease for Morogoro Women, having bolstered the batting team's figure with her 32 runs at a strike rate of 88.89.
There were, moreover, two-digit contributions by key run-getters, Adolphina Jeremiah and Zulfa, for the dominant Morogoro Women.
Adolphina, currently one of the serious contenders for the Best Batter honour in the TCA Women's National League, ended up with an 18-ball 17 in the clash.
Zulfa (pictured) battled to make up for a frustrating time that her fellow opener, Tuliana, faced, given that the former notched 13 runs at a strike rate of 100.00.
The middle-order and low-order batters did not offer much for Morogoro Women, as the side had to bolster its total via the 37 extras given away by Gairo Women.
Gairo Women's bowlers Neema Charles and Lilian Mganga put up a spirited showing, targeting to have Morogoro Women's batting unit neutralised, racking up good figures.
Neema had the most impressive figures, grabbing 3-16, which had her ending up with a 4.00 economy rate.
Lilian had Neema ably backed up, given that the former ended her four-over quota with 2-18 and the eventual 4.50 economy rate.
Chasing 143 runs to secure victory happened to be a daunting task for Gairo Women despite putting up a solid chase, given they ended up with 100/6 in their 20 overs.
Team skipper Zakia Ally turned out to be the cricketer with the much worthier effort, ending three runs short of a half century at a strike rate of 120.51.
There were also two-digit efforts put in by Lucy Michael, as she scored 15 runs not out, and Miriam Stanley, with 12 runs.
Gairo Women's quest for victory was rattled during the early stages, considering the openers- Lailines Mganga and Lilian Mganga- suffered an early dismissal.
The two batters' desire to get Gairo Women's chase off to a great start was thwarted by the Morogoro Women's bowling effort, failing to chip in with convincing figures in the process.
The TCA Women's National League 2025 substantiates the national cricket governing body's drive towards the successful promotion of women's cricket domestically.
The showpiece, in particular, offers youthful female cricketers a better platform to gauge their skills, gain experience, which will in turn boost their quest for a successful cricketing career.
