TANZANIA's senior national men’s cricket team is all set to battle for a successful stint in the 2025 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final scheduled for September 26 to October 4 in Zimbabwe.

Led by skipper Kassim Nassoro, the squad, as per the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) officer, is determined to fight for ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualification and make the nation proud on the international stage.

Players forming the senior national cricket team include Abhik Patwa, Ajith Augastin, Arun Yadav, Ally Mpeka, Amar Rajeevan, Dhrumit Mehta, Ivan Ismail, and Nassoro.

Khalid Amiri, Laksh Bakrania, Mohamed Simba, Mukesh Maker, Salum Jumbe, Sivaraj Selvaraj, Yalinde Maurice, and Augustine Mwamele also make the squad.

The association's officer called on Tanzanians to unite behind the cricketers and wish them the best as they carry Tanzania’s flag high.

The Tanzanian cricketers had earlier gone for preparations in South Africa to gear up for the coming challenge.

The 15-day high-performance training camp took place at the Sports School Elite Academy in Pretoria from August 23 to September 5.

The crucial camp was, the TCA officer revealed, designed to sharpen the cricketers' skills through intensive training, practice matches, and international exposure — all in preparation for the World Cup T20 Africa Qualifier set for Zimbabwe.

The 16 players forming the senior team were under the tutelage of South African tactician Salieg Nackerdien and his assistant, Tanzanian Riziki Kiseto.

The team was, as per the TCA, set to make the most of the opportunity as they prepared to fly the Tanzanian flag high on the global stage.

The initiative reflects TCA’s commitment to raising the standard of cricket in Tanzania and ensuring senior cricketers are ready to compete strongly on the international stage.

The 2025 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final will also be a crucial experience for the senior national team's youthful cricketers, Mwamele, Simba, and Bakrania.

The promising cricketers, who also feature for Tanzania's U-19 team, are set to use the qualifier to efficiently gauge their skills as they shape up for the 2026 ICC U-19 Men's Cricket World Cup, which will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The 2025 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final is a cricket tournament that forms part of the qualification process for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup.

The top two sides in the tournament will join South Africa in the 2026 T20 World Cup, given that the team has already pre-qualified as one of the top eight teams from the previous edition.

In this cycle, a total of 18 teams participated in the African sub-regional phase, which was divided into three events with six teams competing in each event.

The top two sides of each sub-regional qualifier advanced to the regional final, battling it out with Namibia and Uganda, who received a bye after participating in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

The 2025 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final has Tanzania placed in Group B, coming up against Botswana, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The Regional Final will have Tanzania's cricketers opening their account on September 26, facing Botswana at the Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare.

In another development, the 2025 TCA U-17 Dar League came to an exciting close, with Azania Academy crowned champions with a 46-run thrashing of Future Force Academy in a thrilling final on September 7.

The Rehaan Atif-led Azania Academy went in to bat first, garnering 141/3 in their 20 overs.

Needing 142 runs to turn around their fortunes and lift the silverware, Future Force Academy faltered in the chase as they ended up garnering

95/10 in 17.3 overs.

Arif Raja (Azania Academy) was adjudged the Player of the Series, whilst Baraka Fredy (Delaware Academy) ended up as the Best Batsman.

The showpiece's Best Bowler gong went to Prakash Chauhan (Future Force Academy), and Ammar Abbas emerged as the Best Wicketkeeper.

Balakrishna Sreekumar, TCA Chairman, shared memorable moments with the teams — from pep talks with the captains to sitting down with all players in celebration of a spirited tournament.

The winning squad skipper, Rehaan, and his losing squad counterpart, Salman Yasser, reflected on their squads' journey, showing the true sportsmanship that defines cricket.

It turned out to be a fantastic tournament filled with talent, lessons, and the bright promise of Tanzania’s cricket future.
