YOUNG Africans will have no room for complacency when they face TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League match in the afternoon.

The Group A match will be held at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium from 4pm. In another Group ‘A’ match planned for tomorrow, hosts Al Hilal will take on MC Alger at Stade Cheikha Ould Boidiya in Nouakchott from 10pm.

The Tanzanian envoys side kicked off their continental group stage campaign with a devastating 2-0 home loss to Sudanese side Al Hilal before losing 2-0 to MC Alger in their second game.

A last-minute equalizer by Prince Dube against TP Mazembe rescued them from a third consecutive loss in mid December last year.

As a result, Wananchi sit rock-bottom in Group A with just one point picked up so far. They are one point behind their opponents in third place and will leapfrog them with a win.

Al Hilal with nine points and MC Alger with four points are first and second respectively. As a result, the situation is not in Young Africans’ hands in the remaining three games. They go on Matchday 4 knowing that anything less than a win could be curtains.

Young Africans are on a four-game winning streak after winning just one of their six games prior. They have won their last three home matches and will be hopeful of a positive result.

Addressing the media in his press conference, head coach Sead Ramovic said the team is going for nothing less than a victory to keep alive their qualification chances.

“We have a very important game in front of us. We know that we need the three points in order to still have the chance of qualifying for the next round. We are aware that it is a privilege to have this kind of pressure to play for a big club like Young Africans,” he said.

Ramovic revealed he is pleased with the efforts shown by his players in the four weeks he has been in charge leading to improved fitness levels within the squad.

“When I came four weeks ago, I saw that the team was not fit at all and this was true. In the four weeks, I have to give a lot of credit to my players for how they worked, suffered every day to get to the levels that I would like to see them. It is just amazing.”
