THE Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) yesterday launched the 2025 National Open Boxing Championships.

THE Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) yesterday launched the 2025 National Open Boxing Championships.

According to Makore Mashaga, the BFT secretary general, the event is being held at the Manyara Hall located in Tandale, Dar es Salaam. 

The tournaments officially began yesterday with the process of document verification and registration of all those who meet the criteria to participate in the championships.

The registration exercise was to be held yesterday until 2:00 PM and today it will resume from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the preparation of the match schedule, which will take place from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

The weight categories to be contested are as follows:

MEN:

1.  Minimumweight - 48 Kg

2.  Flyweight - 51 Kg

3.  Bantamweight - 54 Kg

4.  Featherweight - 57 Kg

5.  Lightweight - 60 Kg

6.  Light Welterweight - 63.5 Kg

7.  Welterweight - 67 Kg

8.  Light Middleweight - 71 Kg

9.  Middleweight - 75 Kg

10. Light Heavyweight - 80 Kg

11.  Cruiserweight - 86 Kg

12.  Heavyweight - 92 Kg

13.   Super Heavyweight - Over 92 Kg

WOMEN:

1.  Minimumweight - 48 Kg

2.  Light Flyweight - 50 Kg

3.  Flyweight - 52 Kg

4.  Bantamweight - 54 Kg

5.  Featherweight - 57 Kg

6.  Lightweight - 60 Kg

7.  Light Welterweight - 63 Kg

8.  Welterweight - 66 Kg

9.  Light Middleweight - 70 Kg

10.  Middleweight - 75 Kg

11.   Light Heavyweight - 81 Kg

12.  Heavyweight - Over 81 Kg

Mashaga said the boxing bouts will officially commence on tomorrow, June 4, and the tournament finals will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

However, Mashaga warned that no boxer will be allowed to participate in the championships if they fail to submit their names during the ongoing registration exercise that ends today.
