Annual headline inflation for Sept 2025 still at 3.4pc

ANNUAL headline inflation for September 2025 remained unchanged at 3.4 percent as recorded a month earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has affirmed.

In a statement released here yesterday, the bureau said price changes remained similar to the pace of price changes for commodities in the year ending August 2025.

The national consumer price index (NCPI) exhibited relatively stable price movements from September 2024 to September 2025, fluctuating within a narrow range of 115.88 to 119.86 from the base year, at the start of the century.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages price changes for September 2025 decreased to 7.0 percent from 7.7 percent in August 2025, the statement indicated.

In contrast, all items excluding food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded a slight increase to 1.9 percent in September 2025, from 1.6 a month earlier, it affirms, indicating that over the same period, annual headline inflation remained stable, standing at 3.0 percent to 3.4percent.

During the month, the national consumer price index increased from 119.77 to 119.86, mainly attributed to an increase in prices for some food and non-food items.

Food items contributing to the increase included sorghum flour (by 3.6 percent); bread and bakery products (by 1.0pc), industrially bred live chicken (by 5.0pc) and poultry meat (by 3.6pc).

Others are fresh fish (by 1.0pc), fruits (by 2.2pc), round (Irish) potatoes (by 0.8pc), sweet potatoes (by 7.6pc), fresh cassava (by 2.2pc), cocoyam (by 8.9pc), cooking bananas (by 1.8pc) and dried peas (by 4.0pc).

Non-food items contributing to the increase included alcoholic beverages and tobacco (by 0.6pc), clothing materials (by 0.5pc), garments for men (by 0.9pc) and footwear for men (by 0.4pc), while liquefied hydrocarbons rose by 0.1pc, kerosene (by 1.1pc, wood charcoal (by 2.7pc), household furniture (by 1.0pc) and household appliances (by 0.5pc), it added.
