The College of Business Education (CBE) in Dar es Salaam is hosting a special conference on Thursday to boost employment opportunities and sustainable development, with a focus on youth self-employment.
The Rector of CBE, Prof. Edda Lwoga, announced yesterday that the conference aims to empower youth to start their own businesses. Dr. Selemani Jafo, the Minister of Industry and Trade, is expected to be the guest of honor, joined by various leaders from government and the private sector.
Prof. Lwoga stated that the conference will serve as a platform for students to showcase their practical knowledge and to learn directly from employers and development stakeholders. This initiative is part of CBE's efforts to address the country's employment challenges. Over 30 companies and institutions from various sectors are expected to participate.
Participating organizations include the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO), Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Prime Minister's Office (Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), UTT AMIS, Tanzania Youth Coalition, Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC), and Muhimbili University of Medicine (MUHAS). These companies will engage through exhibitions, offer advice, and provide insights into the real work environment.
CBE intends to expand this conference into a national platform, bringing together graduates, employers, government institutions, the private sector, and policymakers to foster a better future for employment and development in Tanzania.
Prof. Lwoga emphasized CBE's commitment to connecting expertise, creativity, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities.
She urged investors, employers, entrepreneurs, educational institutions, students, and the public to attend the conference. CBE aims to produce professionals with the knowledge, skills, creativity, and independence necessary for sustainable national development.
In line with this goal, CBE has established a business mentoring program that guides students in developing and pursuing their business ideas, enabling them to become self-employed upon graduation. Hundreds of students have already benefited from this program.
Additionally, CBE offers an apprenticeship program where students divide their time between classroom learning and practical experience with various employers. Prof. Lwoga highlighted that this program ensures students gain relevant skills and competence, increasing their employability immediately after completing their studies.
