THE Saudi Arabia business and investors forum held from December 18 to 20 in Riyadh, has concluded with strong affirmations that the event will serve as a catalyst for investment in Tanzania’s energy sector.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, emphasised the numerous opportunities available in natural gas, electricity, and clean cooking energy during her address to over 250 business leaders and investors from both countries.
Kapinga outlined the potential of Tanzania’s energy sector, highlighting the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) as a key initiative.
The project, which is set to generate 2,115 Megawatts of electricity, will play a vital role in ensuring a consistent and reliable energy supply for the country.
“This forum not only unlocks investment potential but also strengthens the growing relationship between Tanzania and Saudi Arabia in the energy sector,” Kapinga said.
During the opening of the forum, Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, invited investors to explore the vast opportunities in Tanzania, including energy, mining, manufacturing, agriculture, trade, and infrastructure.
“Tanzania offers abundant opportunities backed by sound policies designed to facilitate economic growth and attract global investment,” Mkumbo said.
He attributed the rapid growth in Tanzania’s investment sector to the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose policies have created conducive environment for investors.
Tanzania’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dr Moh’d Juma Abdalla, urged Tanzanian participants to use the forum as a platform to enhance the country’s economic profile and expand business networks.
“This forum is a unique opportunity to showcase Tanzania’s diverse investment prospects and drive tangible results for all sectors involved,” he said.
The forum attracted the participation of several high-ranking Tanzanian officials, including the Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr. Selemani Jaffo; Minister of Finance, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba; Minister of Minerals, Antony Mavunde; and Deputy Minister in the President’s Office responsible for Employment and Investment in Zanzibar, Sharif Ali Sharif.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Energy, including Assistant Commissioner for Petroleum Engineer Joyce Kisamo, and representatives from the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) also attended.
The forum seen as a strategic initiative to position Tanzania as a prime destination for energy investment . With its wealth of natural resources and ambitious energy projects, the country aims to attract sustainable investments, promote economic development, and strengthen its global partnerships.
