All local government authorities in Tanzania's Tanga Region have received clean audit reports for the 2023/2024 financial year from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG).
This commendable achievement was announced by Tanga Regional Commissioner (RC) Batilda Burian during a special session of the Pangani District Council, convened to discuss the CAG's audit findings.
RC Burian specifically lauded the Korogwe Town Council for its outstanding performance. Not only did Korogwe secure a clean audit report, but it also emerged as the region's top performer in revenue collection, exceeding its target by an impressive 98 percent.
This makes Korogwe the first among Tanga's 11 councils to surpass its revenue goals. "These positive outcomes are a reflection of strong accountability, effective public resource management, and unity between leaders, government staff, and citizens throughout the region," stated RC Batilda.
She urged all councils to continue strengthening their internal control systems and ensure public funds are utilized efficiently and transparently. She also called on councils to support their executive directors in addressing community challenges, managing government systems, and enhancing revenue collection.
During the session, Tanga’s External Regional Auditor, Hamu Mwakasola, confirmed that Pangani District Council had also earned a clean audit opinion for the 2023/2024 financial year. He attributed this success to the council's diligent implementation of CAG recommendations.
Mwakasola emphasized the importance of thoroughly reviewing and deliberating on the CAG’s recommendations to ensure their timely implementation, which he noted is crucial for improving financial oversight and accountability within the council. He added that council leaders and members have shown strong commitment to addressing issues raised in the report and correcting any identified shortcomings.
"Pangani District Council will continue to enhance its financial and resource management systems for the benefit of all residents," Mwakasola concluded. The session was chaired by Pangani District Council Chairman, Akida Bahorera.
