THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by donating essential food and non-food supplies to orphanages and children living in difficult conditions in various regions in the country.

In Dar es Salaam, the recipients of the support were Umra Orphanage Centre, located in Magomeni Mikumi, and Mother of Mercy Children’s Home, based in Madale area, both in Kinondoni District. The initiative also served as a gesture of goodwill for the Eid el Fitri and Easter celebrations.

During the handover ceremony held over the weekend, TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda, praised the caregivers for the tremendous work they do in nurturing vulnerable children.

He emphasized that supporting children is a collective responsibility of the entire society, and the government remains committed to reaching those in need through contributions from taxpayers.

“The initiative is being carried out across all 26 regions in the country because we have identified numerous areas with significant need. This is just one way of giving back to the community. TRA is part of the society, and we are deeply moved by the challenges faced by these children, which is why we are here today,” Mwenda said.

He further highlighted the importance of citizens contributing to the nation’s development by paying taxes, noting that the revenue collected helps the government provide essential services to the community.

He pledged to donate 4m/- to help provide health insurance for the children at Umra Orphanage Centre. He also encouraged the children at the centre to study hard and strive towards achieving their goals.

During the handover of the aid to Mother of Mercy Children’s Home, Richard Kayombo, TRA director of taxpayer education and communication motivated the children at the centre and assured them that TRA would continue its partnership with the orphanage.

He noted that TRA recognizes the importance of assisting vulnerable groups and will continue contributing to the community’s welfare.

Founder of Umra Orphanage Centre, Rahma Kishumba, and the manager of Mother of Mercy Children’s Home, Sr. Christina Christopher, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to TRA for the timely assistance.

They shared that the support had brought comfort to the children and ensured they would have the necessary provisions during the festive season.

The donation from TRA highlights the authority’s dedication to supporting communities and ensuring that children in difficult situations receive basic necessities, especially during festive periods.
