1.17 million standard seven pupils to sit for their national exams tomorrow

A total of 1,172,279 standard seven pupils are expected to sit for the national examination exams scheduled for tomorrow and the following day across the country, including 535,138 boys and 637,141 girls.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam today, the Executive Secretary of the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA), Professor Said Ally Mohamed, said the candidates come from 19,441 schools on the Mainland.

“About 1,094,321 candidates, equivalent to 93.35 percent, will take the exam in Kiswahili, while 77,958 candidates, or 6.65 percent, will sit in English,” he said.

He added that 4,699 candidates with special needs, including the visually impaired, hearing impaired, and those with intellectual or physical disabilities, will also participate in the exams.

The students will be tested in six subjects: Kiswahili, English, Science and Technology, Mathematics, Social Studies and Vocational Skills, and Civics and Ethics.
