Rifaly, in partnership with Stanbic Bank Tanzania, hosted the second edition of Creators Day today under the theme “Turning Creativity into Opportunity: The Future of Digital Content Monetization.” The event took place at the Stanbic Biashara Incubator in Dar es Salaam, bringing together prominent content creators, business leaders, financial experts, and regulatory authorities.

The objective of the event was to equip Tanzanian content creators with practical strategies and essential tools to effectively monetize their creative work. As Tanzania’s creator economy continues to grow, creators increasingly require structured financial knowledge, industry networks, and supportive policies to build sustainable businesses from digital content.

The expanding creator economy presents new opportunities for various sectors in Tanzania. Financial institutions can offer customized banking solutions for digital entrepreneurs. Brands and advertisers gain direct access to influential audiences through collaborations with content creators. Media houses benefit from diverse and engaging local content, while regulatory authorities play a vital role in fostering an environment that enables creators to thrive responsibly.

The event commenced with opening remarks from Kai Mollel, Head of Business Incubator at Stanbic Bank Tanzania, who emphasized the bank’s commitment to supporting SMEs, including digital entrepreneurs and content creators, in scaling their businesses effectively.

“We recognize the significant role content creators play in the economy, and we are committed to helping them build strong business foundations for long-term success,” said Mollel.

In his keynote address, Loth Makuza, Product Lead at Rifaly, introduced the concept of the creator economy, highlighting emerging opportunities for digital content monetization in Tanzania.

“The creator economy in Tanzania is expanding rapidly. Our mission is to empower creators by providing effective tools, financial opportunities, and direct partnerships with brands,” he stated.

Following the keynote address, Mika Chavala, founder of Swahili Nation and a well-known digital influencer, delivered an insightful presentation on “Understanding Content Monetization.” Mika outlined key success factors, including consistency, strategic positioning, and personal branding. He stressed the importance of creators accurately assessing the value of their brand when engaging with potential clients.

“Content creators must step outside their comfort zones and find ways to distinguish themselves,” Mika advised.

A panel discussion, moderated by Subira Bawji, founder of Enderera Investment, followed. The panel featured key industry experts, including Sharon Mujuni, Head of Transactional Banking Business & Commercial Banking at Stanbic Bank Tanzania; Mika Chavala; Kelvin Kimbeje, a content creator and financial educator; and Brian Kalinga from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).

Key Insights from the Panel:

  • Sharon Mujuni explained that Stanbic Bank actively collaborates with Tanzanian SMEs, including content creators, to help them establish strong business foundations for sustainable growth.
  • Kelvin Kimbeje emphasized the importance of financial literacy for creators. “Creators must learn how to earn, manage, save, and invest money wisely,” he advised, encouraging them to diversify their income streams instead of relying on a single revenue source.
  • Brian Kalinga highlighted ethical content creation, emphasizing dignity and value as core components of successful content. He reiterated TCRA’s role in promoting local content through increased broadcasting on Tanzanian television and radio stations.

In his closing remarks, Loth Makuza reaffirmed Rifaly’s support for content creators through its digital platform. “At Rifaly, creators earn $10 for every 10 pieces of content uploaded,” he noted, underlining the platform’s commitment to connecting creators directly with advertisers and brands.

Creators Day received enthusiastic participation, with attendees from various regions of Tanzania engaging in discussions and networking opportunities. Building on the success of this edition, Rifaly aims to host more such events in the future to further empower Tanzania’s growing creator community.
