DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Dr Doto Biteko has commended the Ministry of Energy and its affiliated institutions for demonstrating outstanding performance in service delivery with a call to scale up efforts in promoting clean cooking solutions across the country.

Speaking at the fourth quarterly performance review meeting held in Dodoma, Dr Biteko praised a recent evaluation by the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Unit which revealed that sector performance surpassed 95 percent efficiency during the third quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.
“This sector is critically important—both economically and socially. If it falters, the repercussions are immediate and public. We must remain focused on delivering results that directly benefit citizens,” he said.
He directed Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) to sustain its pace in upgrading electricity infrastructure and continue identifying new energy sources. He also lauded the Rural Energy Agency (REA) for achieving nationwide village electrification and accelerating electricity rollout to smaller hamlets.
Turning to the government’s clean cooking energy drive, Dr Biteko urged all agencies under the ministry—particularly REA, the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and TANESCO—to intensify collaboration in implementing the government’s agenda to transition households from traditional fuels to cleaner alternatives.
“The clean cooking agenda is key to improving public health, protecting the environment and supporting women and children. It requires coordinated, urgent action,” he emphasized.
Deputy Minister for Energy Judith Kapinga also praised the institutions under the ministry for their strong performance and called for collective commitment to the government’s goal of achieving 80 percent access to clean cooking energy by 2034.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Felchesmi Mramba highlighted the review meetings as critical platforms for identifying gaps and aligning strategies to improve project implementation and planning.
Sakina Mwinyimkuu, Director of Government Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in the Prime Minister’s Office, commended the ministry for achieving full compliance with national performance guidelines.
She further acknowledged the ministry’s initiative to reward top-performing units and institutions, saying the recognition boosts motivation and performance culture.
The top-performing institutions for the quarter were REA (1st place), EWURA (2nd), PURA (3rd) while leading ministry departments were Procurement Unit (1st), Legal Unit (2nd) and ICT Unit (3rd).
Among TANESCO regional offices, Manyara, Arusha and Simiyu ranked first, second, and third respectively.
