THE government expects that 9,048 new industries will have been built by the year 2030, generating over 6.5m jobs.
Dr Selemani Jafo, the Industry and Trade minister, made this projection when officiating at the fourth general meeting of the Tanzania Women Trade Officers Association (TAWTO) here yesterday, describing this projection as a core part of the government's strategy to significantly boost the national economy and improve livelihoods through industrial growth.
He emphasized the government's commitment to creating a favourable environment for investors, pointing at efforts to enhance investment conditions and facilitate the establishment of new industries across the country.
The minister also took the opportunity to address challenges faced by trade officers, including a shortage of essential working tools, underscoring the critical role these officers play in the nation's economic development.
He referred to their work as not a 'spare tyre but an integral part of wider economic development, affirming intent to support this vital group, where the ministry is collaborating with Regional Administration and Local Government in the President’s Office (PO-RALG) to address the various challenges.
Regional Commissioner Dr Batilda Buriani said in her remarks that the region is poised to be a leader in this industrial push, noting that while economic challenges led to the closure of a whole range of industries in Tanga, concerted efforts to revive them are already showing positive results.
The region is preparing to establish new and diverse industries, citing plants for assembling ambulances, alongside fish processing. These projects are expected to contribute significantly to broader targets for new industries and resulting job creation, she stated.
Elizabeth Swagi, the TAWTO chairperson, highlighted the association’s role in supporting this national vision, underlining that TAWTO is focused on its mission of empowering small entrepreneurs by providing them with crucial education on business guidelines and regulations.
This support is designed to ensure that small businesses can actively and fully participate in the growing national economy, where collective efforts of the public authorities and professional associations can transform the country’s industrial landscape to secure a more prosperous future.
