THE Information Communication Technology (ICT) Commission has entered into a five-year partnership with the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) to enhance technology development in seven VETA colleges located in various districts across Tanzania.
The agreement was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Dr. Nkundwe Mwasaga, Director General of the ICT Commission, and CPA Anthony Kasore, Director General of VETA.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Dar es Salaam yesterday Dr. Mwasaga said the Commission will be responsible for installing ICT equipment in the workshops of the selected colleges.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the Commission’s mandate to promote ICT development as a tool for empowering youth and fostering innovation.
CPA Kasore welcomed the collaboration, stressing that the Commission’s support will strengthen students’ technological competencies.
He added that in today’s fast-changing digital landscape, it is essential for young people to gain practical ICT skills before entering the job market.
The beneficiary VETA colleges are located in Mpanda (Katavi), Njombe (Njombe), Morogoro (Morogoro), and Songea (Ruvuma), among others.
Recently, the ICT) Commission announced that it will organize the high-level Artificial Intelligence forum next month to unlock economic opportunities and how it can contribute to the country's Gross Domestic Product.
The forum comes at the time AI has made tremendous advancements globally, attracting attention from governments, institutions, and industries eager to harness its potential for development.
Dr Mwasaga noted that the forum was expected to bring together over 500 participants from across Africa and beyond, including delegates from countries such as Estonia, to deliberate on how AI can unlock economic opportunities.
“AI affects every Tanzanian—innovators, students, government employees, and even farmers. It’s revolutionizing the way we work and live, and shaping the future of our economy,” he said.
He explained that the forum would also serve as a space to examine how national frameworks on data privacy, governance, and inclusive development can align with technological progress.
The commission boss said the gathering would also feature a wide range of topics, including general AI, generative AI, emerging trends, AI ethics, startup ecosystems, and the development of small and large language models.
