Professor Mohamed Janabi, has officially been announced as one of the five candidates for the position of the next Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the African Region.
Prof. Janabi, who is also the Executive Director of Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), is competing for the position alongside other candidates, including those from West African countries.
This announcement was made by the WHO Regional Office for Africa. The names of the candidates, who will undergo the election process on May 18, 2025, were submitted by WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The list of candidates was shared with member states on March 14, 2025. In addition to Tanzania, four other countries Ivory Coast, Togo, Niger, and Guinea, have also submitted candidates.
