PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has reaffirmed the government's commitment to upholding the principles governing the land sector to ensure that all Tanzanians benefit from the valuable resource.
Speaking in Dodoma yesterday during a meeting with land sector stakeholders, President Samia emphasised that all land in Tanzania is the property of the people and that the government will continue to protect it to prevent misuse and unjust acquisitions.
"Land is a valuable resource that belongs to the people of Tanzania. The government is determined to protect it and ensure that all Tanzanians benefit fairly from its use," she said.
She stressed that land management should be guided by transparency and fairness, ensuring that land allocations are handled responsibly to avoid disputes and promote sustainable development.
President Samia also directed the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development to strengthen land registration processes and resolve existing land conflicts promptly.
"We want to see improved land management systems that protect the rights of Tanzanians while encouraging responsible investment in the sector," she added.
The president underscored the importance of land in supporting key economic sectors such as agriculture, mining, and tourism, highlighting that proper land management would contribute to national development and poverty reduction.
President Samia reiterated that the government would not tolerate any illegal land acquisitions or encroachments and called on local authorities to strengthen oversight and ensure that land is allocated according to national guidelines.
Deogratius Ndejembi, Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, assured that the government was working to digitise land records and improve service delivery to prevent corruption and speed up land registration.
"We have made progress in streamlining land registration, and the ongoing digitisation process will ensure that land records are secure and accessible," he said.
The meeting was attended by regional and district land officers, investors and representatives from civil society organisations, who pledged to support the government's efforts in protecting and managing land resources for the benefit of all Tanzanians.
