THE Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) has unveiled a long-term vision to become a regional centre of excellence in curriculum development, educational innovation and research, with a strong focus on embracing digital technology.
Dr Aneth Komba, the TIE director general, made this observation at a media briefing ahead of the institution’s golden jubilee celebrations, reaffirming TIE’s commitment to driving transformative change in education.
“As we celebrate five decades of dedicated service, our ambition is to elevate TIE into a dynamic, forward-looking institution that sets benchmarks in curriculum development and educational quality,” she stated.
For the next 50 years TIE will focus on strengthening educational research, advancing digital learning, modernizing publishing infrastructure and expanding strategic partnerships locally and abroad, she explained.
Research and evidence-based planning to support government decision-making in the delivery of basic education is a pillar of this strategy, she said, underlining that research-led reforms are essential for aligning educational outcomes with the country’s broader development goals.
To keep pace with rapid technological advancements, TIE plans to scale up the use of digital tools and AI-powered learning methods, integrating them into classrooms nationwide, she elaborated.
She pointed at the need to modernize TIE’s printing and publishing facilities as existing machinery is outdated and inadequate. TIE needs a modern, large-scale printing facility reducing production costs and increasing revenue, she said,
It will also ensure timely availability of quality teaching and learning materials, she said, noting that this initiative will generate employment opportunities and back up the government’s goal of providing every student with the resources they need to succeed.
Beyond technology and infrastructure, TIE is strengthening collaboration with educational institutions, development partners and private sector stakeholders to foster innovation and accelerate progress in the education sector.
The 50th anniversary is being commemorated under the theme “One Book, One Pupil,’ — #Give him a book, touch a dream - emphasizing equitable access to learning resources for every learner.
In the lead-up to the main event on June 17, TIE has been conducting a series of activities — including stakeholder dialogues, exhibitions, outreach programs and training workshops— to celebrate its legacy and map out the future.
