TANZANIA Railway Corporation (TRC) has introduced additional routes using Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma responding to a growing demand for rail travel.
Currently, between 9,000 and 10,000 passengers travel daily on this route, highlighting the need for more efficient transport solutions.
Masanja Kadogosa, the TRC director general, announced the new route, including four daily trips between the two cities.
He emphasized that despite the expansion, the demand for transport services remains high.
" To address this, TRC is preparing to deploy two more pairs of EMUs ensuring they can accommodate any future increases in passenger numbers.
Kadogosa noted that the new EMUs enhance capacity and offer a faster and more comfortable travel experience, reducing journey times by over 40 minutes compared to other modes of transport.
" This initiative is part of TRC's ongoing efforts to improve railway services and meet the needs of the public efficiently," he said.
He said passengers traveling by EMU from Dar es Salaam have to pay 120,000 /—for business class and 150,000/—for royal class.
