The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Hassan Abbasi, leading the Tanzanian delegation at the 26th General Assembly of the UN Tourism Organization, which began today, November 9, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, assured the world that the state of tourism and peace in Tanzania are stable, following the conflicts that occurred during and after the elections in some areas.

Dr. Abbasi made these remarks today while contributing to the institution's Annual Implementation Report, where Tanzania also benefited from various programs, including hosting the African Regional World Gastronomy Tourism Conference held in Arusha this April and funding for some environmental conservation programs in the Usambara Mountain Ranges.

“Honorable Chairman of this Council, after congratulating the Secretary-General and the UN Tourism Secretariat for the implementation from which Tanzania has also benefited, I would like to take this opportunity to report that Tanzania is safe following the incident that occurred during the election.

“The government has made efforts and restored our country to a state of tranquility, thus ensuring it remains safe for tourists, and all our attractions, which you are familiar with, are secure. I welcome the delegates of this Meeting and other tourism stakeholders to come and continue visiting this country, which is Africa's best destination for safari tourism,” said Dr. Abbasi.

Furthermore, in addition to Tanzania being one of only 32 countries out of the 160 members of the Union to be a Member of the Executive Committee, the General Assembly today also approved Tanzania as a Member of the UN Tourism Credentials Committee.

This conference is continuing to take place here in the city of Riyadh, among other things, it will discuss the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in promoting tourism, and this evening it confirmed Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais from the UAE as the new Executive Secretary of this vital institution for the global tourism sector.
