KIMWANI Girls cricket squad has impressively opened its quest for silverware in the 2025 Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Junior League – Chanika Girls, walloping Gogo Girls by eight wickets in Dar es Salaam recently.
In the encounter, which took place at Chanika on the outskirts of the city, Gogo Girls ended up with a modest score of 30/10 in 10.5 overs of the match, which was slated for 20 overs.
None of the Gogo Girls squad's batters made her way back with two digits, given they had failed to repel a spirited Kimwani Girls bowling unit.
Opener Dorah James was one run short of two-digit figures and she was, consequently, the batter with the most runs in the batting team.
Raines John - Dorah's fellow opener- ended up two runs short of a two-digit figure as the performer vainly fought to boost the outfit's total.
Tail-ender Rehema Jaffar and Vivian Malwa, who came on at number four, chipped in with four runs and two runs respectively for the squad.
A batting collapse turned out to be Gogo Girls' most noticeable undoing, as the remainder of the top-order batters and the middle order could not withstand Kimwani Girls' bowling charge.
Seven extras - two byes and five wides - somewhat boosted Gogo Girls' figure.
Yunes Joseph and Nurath Abeid orchestrated a successful bowling plan by Kimwani Girls to keep Gogo Girls in check.
Having taken 3-1 in two overs, Yunes was the bowler with the best showing at the time Kimwani Girls fielded.
Nurath kept on punishing the Gogo Girls' batting unit and finished with 3-11 in 2.5 overs.
Sharifa Omary, too, made her presence count for Kimwani Girls, chipping in with 2-6 and a 3.00 economy rate.
Chasing a modest target of 31 runs, the Zaidath Ally-led Kimwani Girls confidently mounted a successful chase - garnering 33/2 in mere 7.5 overs.
Opener Nurath wounded up an impressive all-round performance with 10 runs.
Jenipha Carlos was too resolute with the bat, scoring 10 runs not out.
The cricketer had enough time to exhibit her aggressiveness as she hammered two boundaries in her 11 knocks.
She confidently forged a third-wicket partnership with Sharifa Omary (one run not out) to put the match beyond Gogo Girls' reach.
Kimwani Girls' successful efforts to reach the target were noticeably buoyed by 13 extras given away by the Gogo Girls bowling unit.
The Chanika Girls' showdown is part of the TCA Junior League, geared towards improving efforts by the national cricket body to promote cricket from the grassroots.
The Group A teams are Lukooni Girls, Lubakaya Girls, Gogo Girls, and Kimwani Girls.
Yongwe Girls, Chanika Girls, Vikongoro Girls, and Tungini Girls make Group B.
The junior female cricketers secure an opportunity to evaluate their competence and gain experience via battling it out in the encounters.
