ARUN Yadav displayed a scintillating showing with bat and ball as Tanzania's senior national cricket team thumped Malawi by 72 runs in the Quad Nations T20 Cup - Arjun Menon Memorial opener in Blantyre on Sunday.

Malawi won the toss and opted to bowl first in the morning clash at the TCA Oval and put lots of effort, aiming at keeping Tanzania in check.

A commanding performance at the crease saw Tanzania wrap up the innings with an imposing 192/4 in 20 overs.

Yadav, assigned as an opener, led from the front with a classy 86 (64) and propelled his team to 133-2 upon his dismissal in the 15th over.

In his impressive input, which came at a strike rate of 134.38, Yadav nailed 11 fours and two sixes.

The seasoned batsman duly proved his worth and covered up for his opening batting partner, Dhrumit Mehta.

The youthful Mehta had an early exit, leaving the crease for duck.

Ajith Augastin, also deployed at the top order, confidently backed Yadav up with a fine 52 runs (39).

The top-order batting pair’s 128-run stand, as per the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) officer, enters the record books regarding Tanzania's senior national cricket team's engagement in competitive events.

Late fireworks from Mukesh Maker (10-ball 32 not out) helped Tanzania solidly bring their innings to a close.

Daniel Jakiel, whose notable effort was a key dismissal of Yadav, was Malawi's only bowler who made his presence count, given he ended with 2-29 in his four overs.

Needing 193 runs to turn tables on Tanzania, Malawi ended up scoring 120/7 in the allotted 20 overs, falling short despite a valiant effort.

A 40-ball 40 by Saleem Nihute, who made his way back with bat in hand, was so far an effort worth noting during Malawi's turn with the bat.

Donnex Kansonkho chipped in with 16 runs and Suhail Vayani made his way back to the pavilion with 14 runs as Malawi vainly fought to mount a successful chase.

There were, moreover, two-digit contributions by Gift Kansonkho, who notched 11 runs, and Chisomo Chete, who ended up with 10 runs, for the tournament hosts.

Tanzania's bowlers, ultimately, sealed the win for their squad with tight spells, as Ally Kimote starred with 3-17.

The pacer was efficiently supported by spinner Kassim Nassoro, Yadav, Laksh Bakrania and youthful pacer Khalid Amiri, who all ended up with one wicket each.

There was also a noticeable showing by Yadav, who executed three fielding dismissals when Tanzania fielded.

The second day of the Quad Nations T20 Cup - Arjun Menon Memorial also witnessed Bahrain secure a commanding 46-run win over Germany at the TCA Oval.

Bahrain had taken the crease first and wrapped their innings up with a mammoth 207/2 in 20 overs.

Chasing 208 runs became a tall order for the Hamanjot Singh-led Germany, in which they faltered with 161/8 in 20 overs.

Malawi had earlier got their campaign in the Quad Nations T20 Cup-Arjun Menon Memorial off to the wrong foot, going down to Germany by five wickets a day back.

Led by Donnex Kasonkho, Malawi notched 144/8 in the allotted 20 overs once they took the crease first.
