The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has donated 20 mn /- to Taifa Stars following their crucial 1–0 victory over Mauritania in the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier held Benjamin Mkapa stadium.
The win, secured by right defender Somari Kapombe after assist from Iddi Nado has significantly bolstered Tanzania’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON finals in Morocco.
Speaking at the handing over held in Dar es Salaam, Chalamila said the donation was part of his commitment to recognizing the team’s determination and inspiring continued excellence.
He emphasized that his contribution supports President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s broader pledge to promote sports and youth development across the country.
“President Samia has led by example in supporting Taifa Stars, and I am proud to join her in this national cause. This is not just about football—it’s about honoring her vision for sports as a driver of unity and opportunity,” Chalamila said.
President Samia earlier pledged 5 mn/- for every goal scored by Taifa Stars during the qualifiers, a move that has significantly boosted player morale and sparked increased public enthusiasm around the team’s campaign.
With national support growing, the team is riding a wave of momentum as they push toward securing a place in the continental tournament.
