SIMBA Sports Club’s experienced right-back, Shomari Kapombe, has reiterated his ambition to secure an international title before the end of his football career.

The defender, who has been a key figure in Simba’s recent continental campaigns, has set his sights on winning either the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup.

Kapombe (pictured) has featured prominently in Simba’s African exploits, helping the club reach the CAF Champions League quarter-finals three times in recent seasons during the 2020-21, 2022-23, and 2023-24 editions.

This year marks his second stint in the CAF Confederation Cup, having previously participated in the tournament during the 2021-22 season.

For Simba, this season’s Confederation Cup quarter-final appearance is their sixth since the 2018-19 season, with Kapombe playing an instrumental role in each campaign.

The seasoned defender believes the time has come for Simba to go beyond the quarter-final stage and make history by clinching a continental title.

Speaking about his aspirations, Kapombe emphasized how much an African championship title means to him.

“The African championship is something that has been bothering me for a long time,” he stated. “Before I finish my football journey, I want to write history with my club Simba. This is my dream, and with each passing season, my thirst for winning the African championship grows stronger.”

Kapombe acknowledged that while reaching the quarter-finals is an achievement in itself, Simba must aim higher.

“Reaching the quarter-finals is something to be proud of, but Simba need more than this step. We need to continue fighting to write history. There are changes in our team, and that is why I have great confidence that we can achieve this,” he said.

Simba have been making significant efforts to strengthen their squad and technical setup, with the club bringing in new players and implementing tactical changes. Kapombe believes these adjustments could be key in their quest for continental dominance.

“This is our chance to do what we have never done before to win the African championship,” he added. “I know that the journey to success is not easy, but if we continue to strive, we will not fail*

Since joining Simba, Kapombe has been a consistent performer in their international matches. The defender has played 40 continental matches for the club, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively has made him an invaluable asset to the team. His runs down the right flank have often created crucial attacking opportunities, while his defensive discipline has helped Simba maintain solidity at the back.

Kapombe’s leadership and experience have also been vital in guiding the younger players in the squad. His presence on the field brings stability, and his determination to win has been a motivating factor for his teammates.

As Simba prepare for their second leg Confederation Cup quarter-final clash against Al Masry, Kapombe and his teammates are fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead.

The club is keen to go beyond their previous best performances and compete for the ultimate prize.

The Tanzanian giants have been among the most consistent performers in African competitions in recent years, and they hope this season will mark a turning point in their continental ambitions.

With a blend of experienced players like Kapombe and the new talent brought in to strengthen the squad, Simba believe they have what it takes to challenge for the title.

The team’s fans, who have been a source of unwavering support, also share the same dream and will be hoping their club can finally break the quarter-final barrier and achieve historic success.

As the competition progresses, all eyes will be on Kapombe and his teammates to see if they can turn their ambitions into reality and bring continental glory to Simba SC and Tanzanian football as a whole.
