FOLLOWING their 2-0 defeat to RS Berkane in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final in Morocco, Simba SC defender Shomari Kapombe has confidently declared that the trophy will remain in Tanzania after the decisive second leg on Sunday.
The return leg will be hosted by the "Msimbazi Reds" at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar. The Tanzanian international has urged Simba fans to fill the stadium, emphasizing that the team will give everything to overcome the deficit and secure the title.
Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM local time, with live broadcast coverage provided by CAF media partners, including Azam Media, beIN Sport, Canal+, SuperSport, SABC, and other international platforms.
RS Berkane carry a two-goal advantage into the return leg thanks to early strikes from Mamadou Camara and Oussama Lamlaoui in the first leg.
Despite this, Simba - known for their resilience - remain hopeful of overturning the result.
“We are all aware that we are trailing after the first leg defeat,” said Kapombe (pictured). “Being down by two goals means we have a significant challenge ahead. It won't be easy; erasing that deficit is tough.”
“Our first aim will be to score those two goals as quickly as possible, then we’ll push for the winner. What gives us hope is that we’re playing at home, and that gives us a slight edge. We want the best possible preparation for the return leg.”
Kapombe also called on Simba supporters to rally behind the team.
“We saw the support Berkane had at home. That kind of energy from our fans will motivate us to fight harder. I urge all fans to show up in large numbers.”
When asked whether the trophy would stay in Tanzania, Kapombe replied confidently: “We are taking it, for sure. We are taking it, and we will not spare them (Berkane).”
The atmosphere in Zanzibar is expected to be electric as Simba aim to overturn the deficit and claim continental glory, while RS Berkane will look to defend their lead and lift the trophy on foreign soil.
With a brand-new trophy at stake and a place in CAF history on the line, fans can expect a thrilling encounter full of passion, drama, and world-class football.
CAF and host club Simba are working together to ensure the event in Zanzibar is a resounding success.
The overall winners of the CAF Confederation Cup final will be awarded USD 2 million, while the runners-up will receive USD 1 million.
