MOROGORO Girls have emerged as winners of the 2025 National Inter-Primary Schools Games (UMITASHUMTA) T20 Competition following an emphatic 55-run victory over Tanga Girls in the final in Iringa early this week.
Morogoro Girls ended up with an imposing 123/10 in 20 overs after they were put in to bat first by Tanga Girls in the clash at the Lugalo ground.
A spirited batting showing by the Janet Mathias-led Morogoro Girls turned out to be pivotal when it came to the plan by the team to garner a better total.
Even though the top-order and middle-order cricketers hardly proved their worth at the crease, Morogoro Girls' resilience was evident, given that the remainder of the batting unit put up a spirited showing.
Tail-ender Pamela Charles was the cricketer with the most runs during the Morogoro Girls batting time- posting 23 runs not out.
There was also an impressive game put up by Elizabeth Frantino, as the promising player made her way back with 17 runs.
The batting team had benefited from the 59 extras that Tanga Girls had given away.
Tanga Girls' Amina Salim had an impressive 4-29, vainly seeking rejuvenation.
Fatuma Omari notched 2-20 whereas Mwanahawa Ramadhan ended her quota with 2-25 for the bowling unit, aiming at successfully thwarting the opponents' batting unit.
Chasing 124 runs from 20 overs to come out with a win happened to be a difficult task for Tanga Girls, if their batting game was anything to go by.
The Tanga Girls' batting weakness was brutally exposed after the youthful cricketers ended up with a mere 68/10 in 17.1 overs.
None of their batting unit members had two digits, easily crumbling in the hands of the uncompromising Morogoro Girls bowling unit.
Team skipper Fatuma garnered six runs, ending as the cricketer with the most runs, Amina Salim and Mwajuma Mohamed chipped in with five runs apiece.
The Morogoro Girls bowlers Esther Zakayo and Janet solidly kept the Tanga Girls in check with excellent bowling.
Esther boasted 3-16, which had the bowler ending with the 4.00 economy rate. Janet had much more stellar stats, grabbing 3-11, which ended with the cricketer notching the 2.75 economy rate.
