YOUNG Africans manager Walter Harrison has emphasized the significance of their upcoming friendly match against Singida Black Stars, stating that it will provide crucial playing time to maintain player fitness during the international break.
Harrison highlighted that the match, now scheduled for Monday at Airtel Stadium in Singida, is essential in keeping non-national team players sharp ahead of their domestic competitions.
This friendly match serves as an important part of Young Africans' preparations for their upcoming fixtures. They will face Songea United in the Federation Cup on March 29, followed by a crucial Mainland Premier League clash against Tabora United at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium on April 2.
Harrison confirmed the squad's strong fitness levels, with Kouassi Yao returning from injury to bolster the team ahead of their busy schedule.
He also expressed confidence that players on international duty will gain valuable playing time, ensuring they return in peak condition, while the remaining squad members have maintained their fitness during the FIFA break.
This friendly presents head coach Hamdi Miloud with an opportunity to evaluate players who have received limited league minutes throughout the season.
In a less pressured environment, he can assess their abilities and potential contributions. Notably, several key players, including Duke Abuya, Djigui Diarra, Dickson Job, Ibrahim Hamad, Clement Mzize, Khalid Aucho, Kennedy Musonda, and Prince Dube, are currently engaged in international matches.
Regarding their preparations for Monday’s match, Harrison reported high morale among the players and confirmed that coach Miloud intends to give every squad member playing time.
"Given the extended break in our schedule, the friendly against Singida Black Stars is crucial for maintaining player fitness and competitiveness. The quality of the opposition is ideal for our players' development.
"All players not on international duty have returned to training and are preparing for Monday's match in Singida.
"The coach is pleased with their progress, and we are using this game as a vital step toward our upcoming fixtures against Songea United and Tabora United. We are satisfied with the preparations and anticipate a strong performance," said Harrison.
Although Young Africans and Singida Black Stars have distinct seasonal objectives, this friendly match is essential for both teams to maintain player fitness during the international break.
Young Africans are determined to defend their Premier League title, while Singida Black Stars are aiming for a top-four finish.
Young Africans boast the league's most potent attack, having scored 58 goals, surpassing their rivals Simba, who have 52.
In terms of defense, Young Africans hold the second-best record, conceding nine goals, just behind Simba, who have allowed eight.
