The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) has injected over 104bn/- into the agricultural sector over the past four years, with a strong emphasis on supporting young women in various regions across Tanzania.

This significant investment reinforces the government's "Building Better Tomorrow" (BBT) initiative, a program designed to empower young women and men through engagement in the agricultural sector throughout the country.

Donald Mizambwa, AGRA-Tanzania Program Officer, shared this information at a stakeholder meeting in Dodoma focused on projects for youth and women in agriculture. He highlighted that AGRA's "Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture" (YEFFA) program represents a major investment spanning 18 regions, all aimed at providing diverse agricultural opportunities for young people.

Mizambwa elaborated that the YEFFA program seeks to empower young individuals, with a particular focus on women, by developing their entrepreneurial capabilities in modern agricultural practices and ensuring their meaningful involvement in food and agricultural value chains.

He emphasized AGRA's role in supporting the BBT program through initiatives such as youth training, the introduction of modern agricultural technologies, improved access to capital and financial services, and support for acquiring modern agricultural tools and installations to boost efficiency and productivity. "AGRA has been a key partner in supporting the government's initiatives to advance the agricultural sector in Tanzania," stated Mizambwa.

Through collaborations with various government bodies and stakeholders, AGRA has successfully integrated over 145,000 young people into value chains and sustainable markets, focusing on crops like maize, beans, sunflowers, rice, and vegetables. This support has also enabled them to access international markets in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda. "We remain committed to working with the Government to ensure that every young person benefits from the opportunities available through the private sector," Mizambwa affirmed.

In response, Minister Bashe lauded AGRA's significant contributions to the agricultural sector and urged stakeholders in regions not yet involved to ensure that all young people can access the opportunities provided by both the government and the private sector. He stressed that strong collaboration between the government and the private sector is a vital catalyst for driving development in the nation's agricultural landscape.

The conference brought together stakeholders implementing youth and women's projects in agriculture to synergize their efforts and generate more employment opportunities for young people across the country.
