Deputy Minister of Finance Hamad Hassan Chande has emphasized the broader impact of the newly planned National Lottery, including fairness, transparency, and national progress.
“Every ticket purchased will play a role in building a better Tanzania, ensuring that we all win together,” the deputy minister said recently ahead of the launch of new National Lottery.
Operated by ITHUBA Tanzania under the regulatory supervision of the Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT), the National Lottery aims to be more than just a gaming platform—it is positioned as a catalyst for national progress, shared prosperity, and sustainable sports development, according to Kelvin Koka, Director of ITHUBA Tanzania.
“As operations commence soon, the initiative is expected to impact multiple sectors, from job creation to grassroots sports programs,” he said.
Koka reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment, highlighting an initial investment of $20 million targeted at infrastructure, employment, technology, and business partnerships to create a world-class lottery experience.
ITHUBA, a well-established lottery operator with a strong track record in South Africa and Uganda, brings its extensive expertise to Tanzania.
"The National Lottery is not just about games; it is about opportunities. It is about creating jobs and providing a new avenue for hope and empowerment. Every ticket purchased will contribute to national progress," Koka stated.
The National Lottery is designed to deliver far-reaching benefits across various stakeholders including players, business partners & suppliers, media partners and retailers.
"The National Lottery is about uniting Tanzanians from all walks of life around a common cause," Koka emphasized.
"By playing the Lottery, everyone will become part of this movement, contributing to the collective success of the nation. We believe in the power of community, and through this initiative, we are helping to build a brighter future for Tanzanian sports and economic growth."
With each ticket sold, Tanzanians will not only have the chance to win but also play a role in national development, sports excellence, and community upliftment.
The National Lottery is more than just a game—it is a promise of empowerment and transformation for generations to come.
“We are working closely with ITHUBA to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to protect players and maintain the credibility of the lottery,” stated a spokesperson from the Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT).
“The goal is to create a National Lottery that is transparent, well-regulated, and beneficial to the people of Tanzania.”
As part of its regulatory framework, the spokesperson said GBT will conduct regular audits and compliance checks to verify that the lottery operates in accordance with Tanzanian Gaming Act and international gaming standards.
These audits will focus on financial integrity, fair draw processes, and responsible gaming practices.
In preparation for the lottery’s official launch, ITHUBA will roll out extensive public education campaigns to inform Tanzanians about how the lottery works, the importance of responsible gaming, and the measures in pace to ensure fairness.
