Fast, cheaper internet services help to spur business growth in Tanzania

Speedy and affordable internet services have been cited as the major tools that enable the growth of many international businesses to take place online and digital economy, thereby avoiding the costs of traveling abroad.

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) communication statistics for the first quarter of the financial year 2023/2024 have shown a significant growth in subscription and usage of communication services and healthy competition among market players, leading to the overall decrease in retail services tariff in this quarter compared to the previous quarter. 

Notable achievement has also been recorded in terms of increased 3G and 4G services coverage to the largest population in the country, paving the way for future growth in the sector and digital economy.

Speaking on Friday in Dar es Salaam, Halotel business director Abdallah Salumu said that interconnected businesses by having seamless communication and reliable internet access are crucial for businesses looking to expand internationally.

Salumu said that through globalization, the world has become like a village and when looking at rapid growth of international trade which causes business people to travel frequently, but having affordable and fast internet services has reduced or eliminated the cost of traveling, enabling meetings and purchases to be conducted online
