THE Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) has announced a one-week course aimed at judges, competition officials, and coaches, to be held at Nyamagana Stadium in Mwanza.

The course, starting next Tuesday, will attract participants from all Lake Zone regions, including Mara, Shinyanga, Mwanza, and Kagera.

BFT secretary general Mashaga Makore revealed that the course is designed for Grade One officials and will be facilitated by experienced instructors.

Makore, alongside Mafuru Mafuru, will instruct judges and competition officials, while Michael Changalawe and Robert Sululu will handle the coaching sessions.

“The course is for judges, coaches, and competition officials from Lake Zone areas. Our aim is to involve as many people as possible in boxing, ensuring that the sport grows across these regions,” Makore said.

He also mentioned a recent meeting with the Mara Regional Commissioner, where discussions focused on advancing boxing in the region.

Makore expressed optimism about the regional commissioner’s willingness to support the development of the sport.

“We had a productive meeting with the Mara Regional Commissioner last Wednesday, and we’re excited that he is committed to improving boxing in his region.

“We’re planning some significant events there as part of our nationwide efforts to promote boxing,” he said.

In addition to the upcoming course, Makore celebrated the victory of Tanzanian boxer Yusufu Changalawe, who recently defeated Democratic Republic of Congo’s Peter Kabeja in Addis Ababa.

“The bout in Addis Ababa was the third between Changalawe and Kabeja. In previous encounters at the All-Africa Games in Ghana and the Mandela Cup in South Africa, Kabeja won controversially. We are delighted that this time, Changalawe secured a well-deserved victory in Ethiopia,” Makore said.
