The government through Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting businesses, fostering innovation, and promoting investment and trade across Tanzania and Africa.
That was said in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday by TANTRADE Director General Dr. Latifa Khamis when officiating a three day International Trade Exhibition on building , mining and construction which is taking place at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es salaam where by more than 30 exhibitors across the global are participating .
“TANTRADE serves as a key facilitator of trade promotion events in Tanzania, and today marks yet another milestone in our journey to advance trade, attract investment, and drive sustainable growth. This exhibition brings together innovation, international industry leaders, and entrepreneurs from Tanzania, Africa, and beyond. For 36 years, our exhibitions have provided a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnerships that strengthen economic development and foster collaboration” said Dr Khamis.
She said that TANTRADE’s core mission is to facilitate trade, support market access, and promote Tanzanian businesses locally, regionally, and internationally through organising and hosting international exhibitions and trade fairs and also taking Tanzanian products and innovations to global platforms.
“This event is a celebration of what the construction sector represents and that its not only about erecting buildings; it is about building futures—creating the infrastructure that connects us, the homes that shelter us, the schools that nurture and educate our children, the hospitals that care for our people, and the industries that create jobs and prosperity. Through platforms like this, we showcase how trade and innovation can transform communities and uplift entire nations” said Dr Khamis.
She cited an example whereby Tanzania is participating in the Osaka Export Exhibition in Japan, which runs until October 14 and that such opportunities open doors for Tanzanian producers to reach new markets and connect with global investors. TANTRADE remains committed to being the bridge that links Tanzania’s leadership, entrepreneurs, and innovators to international markets, ensuring that every product and every idea showcased here finds pathways to growth and success.
Dr Janeth Legashingo , chairperson of the Mining Commission also commented that currently, the mining sector contributes 10.1 percent to Tanzania’s GDP, while the construction sector contributes 11.5 percent figures that highlight their significant role in driving national development and economic transformation.
“Hence exhibitions like this attract global investors and create a unique opportunity to connect with the right partners for infrastructure and industrial development. Also strengthening collaboration as it builds bridges between local service providers and international investors, creating jobs, increasing productivity, and enabling the transfer of modern technologies to Tanzania” said Dr Legashingo.
She added that by advancing construction and infrastructure by reducing import costs, improving access to equipment, and accelerating the implementation of major projects, this exhibition supports the development of world-class infrastructure across the country.
“Not only have that but the mining and construction sectors already employed over 1.2 million Tanzanians, directly and indirectly. This exhibition creates even more opportunities for young people to acquire new skills and modern professional expertise, showcasing technology and innovation by featuring cutting-edge machinery, digital solutions, and artificial intelligence applications, the exhibition promotes innovation that enhances productivity and reduces operational costs.” She added.
For his part, Expolink Group Regional Director for Africa Duncan Njage construction is not merely about buildings—it is about building the future, about creating the homes where families will grow, the schools where children will learn, the hospitals where lives will be saved, and the roads, bridges, and industries that will connect us to prosperity.
Njage said that the exhibition highlights key green sectors that define sustainable growth, a place where tradition meets innovation to promote environmentally friendly timber, modern furniture design, and water technologies and showcase how Africa can thrive while preserving the environment and creating jobs.
”Water technology takes centre stage because water is life—whether it is clean drinking water, irrigation for our farms, or smart systems for our growing cities. Innovations in water technology help us face the challenges of climate change. This exhibition is more than a display of products; it is a platform for growth, responsibility, and transformation. What makes it truly special is not just what you see, but the connections, collaborations, and opportunities that emerge here,” said Njage.
