MAIZE farmers in Hanang District, Manyara Region, have praised the government for ensuring timely access to agricultural inputs, which they say has played a crucial role in this season’s significant yield improvements.
In recent interviews, farmers highlighted the impact of subsidised fertilizers, availability of improved seeds, and proactive extension services as key factors behind the bumper maize harvest. Kibaisi Maideshi, a farmer from Endasaki village, expressed gratitude for the government’s input support program and the practical guidance from agricultural officers, noting that favorable rains and improved farming techniques contributed to a far better harvest than in previous years.
He urged the government to continue expanding training and ensure extension services are timely to align with farming seasons.Another farmer, Maria Bashiri, said the subsidy programme has transformed livelihoods by breaking the cycle of poverty among smallholder farmers through increased productivity.
Zainab Rajabu, executive secretary of the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) in Manyara, credited government reforms and close monitoring for the successful season and encouraged farmers to properly store their produce and work cooperatively to enhance productivity. Farmers have also been urged to strengthen partnerships with agricultural institutions and adopt training and technologies to promote sustainable, value-added farming.
