Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL), a subsidiary of Diageo PLC, today hosted the British High Commissioner to Tanzania, H.E. Marianne Young, and the UK Government’s Trade Envoy to East Africa, Hon. Kate Osamor MP, at its Dar es Salaam Brewery.

This high-level visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening UK–Tanzania trade relations, positioning SBL as a leading model of responsible investment and public–private collaboration.

The visit underscores the UK’s long-term commitment to deepening economic ties with Tanzania through trade and investment. As a Diageo-owned company, SBL demonstrates how UK capital and expertise can drive the growth of local industries while promoting innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development.

“We are honoured to welcome the British High Commissioner and the Trade Envoy to our brewery. This visit reflects the strength of UK–Tanzania relations and our shared ambition to build a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future. At SBL, we are not just brewing beverages, we’re brewing opportunity, from farmers and suppliers to consumers and communities,” said Obinna Anyalebelechi, Managing Director of SBL.

SBL’s investments in Tanzania include empowering over 600 local farmers through its sorghum, maize, and barley sourcing programs; implementing water stewardship initiatives that have provided access to clean water for over 2 million people; and creating employment opportunities across its breweries in Moshi, Mwanza, and Dar es Salaam.

The Trade Envoy’s visit also highlighted the critical role of public–private partnerships in creating long-term impact. The delegation engaged with brewery staff and explored opportunities to expand UK-supported enterprise development and skills training initiatives across the region.

“Serengeti Breweries Limited demonstrates how strong investment and sustainable business practices can support inclusive economic growth. From local production to climate-conscious operations and community initiatives, SBL is contributing to Tanzania’s economic prosperity. The UK is proud to partner with business that champion sustainable economic growth” said H.E. Marianne Young, British High Commissioner to Tanzania.

As Tanzania continues to grow as a key economic hub in East Africa, SBL, backed by responsible foreign investment, offers a blueprint for how business can deliver both economic value and social progress.
