ACT-Wazalendo National Chairman Othman Masoud Othman has said the party is a movement for change, striving to earn public support in order to help drive Tanzania’s transformation and development as many developing nations around the world.

Speaking yesterday at a public rally in Lamadi Ward, Simiyu Region, part of the third day of his "Operation Democracy" tour across the Lake Zone and gold belt regions, Othman emphasised that the party is committed to empowering citizens to use their voting rights to elect leaders who can accelerate economic and social progress.

"A country governed by its people must allow those citizens to freely choose leaders at all levels, from councillors to MPs and the president who have vision and the capacity to deliver development," he said.

Othman noted that Tanzania is among the richest nations in Africa in terms of natural resources, and there's great potential for farmers to benefit more from their produce. He cited the example of cloves in Zanzibar, where reforms have raised the price of cloves to   14,000/- per kilo—about 80 percent of the global market price, significantly benefiting farmers.

He urged citizens to understand that elections are battlegrounds for change, and that those seeking transformation must actively engage, educate one another, and elect competent leaders.

Despite concerns over the credibility of the current electoral commission, Othman reaffirmed ACT-Wazalendo’s commitment to contesting upcoming elections. "We will not boycott the election, even though the commission still lacks public trust after overseeing flawed polls in the past," he said.

He called on Tanzanians to unite in pursuit of political and economic reform by choosing experienced, visionary leaders through ACT-Wazalendo.

ACT-Wazalendo secretary general Ado Shaibu, welcoming Othman to the rally, praised the people of Lamadi as true reformists committed to the struggle for democracy. He called for continued unity and support for ACT-Wazalendo to ensure victory during the polls.

Simiyu regional secretary for the party, Selemani Misango, urged residents of the area to prepare for the elections by electing representatives who will tackle the region’s pressing social and economic challenges.

Meanwhile, Central Committee member Robert Andrew Maguru said the socio-economic challenges facing Busega residents can be addressed if citizens unite behind ACT-Wazalendo and elect leaders at all levels across the region.
