THE government has strongly condemned the attack on the Secretary-General of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Father Charles Kitima, and directed the Police Force to ensure that all those involved are arrested and interrogated.
Speaking yesterday, May 2, 2025, in Dodoma, Minister for Home Affairs Innocent Bashungwa instructed the Police to track down the individual who posted on social media that “Kitima’s days are numbered,” along with anyone who planned or executed the attack.
“This person must be found urgently, questioned on who sent him, and stern legal action must be taken,” said Bashungwa.
According to reports, Father Kitima was attacked in the Kurasini area of Temeke District in Dar es Salaam, where the TEC headquarters are located.
Bashungwa emphasized that the government recognizes the significant role of religious leaders in safeguarding peace, morality, and national unity, and warned that acts of hatred and incitement will not be tolerated.
So far, the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police are holding Rauli Mahabi on suspicion of assaulting Father Kitima.
