Cement industry records surplus, creates over 12,000 jobs
INDUSTRY and Trade Minister, Dr. Seleman Jafo, has revealed that cement production in Tanzania reached 10,929,567.60 tonnes in 2024, while the country’s annual domestic demand stands at approximately 8,500,000 tonnes.
Dr. Jafo made the statement today, May 14, 2025, while presenting his ministry’s budget estimates for the 2025/2026 financial year in Parliament, Dodoma.
He noted that the surplus of 2,429,567.60 tonnes is exported to markets in Rwanda, Malawi, Mozambique, Burundi, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Zambia.
Key producers involved in cement exports include Dangote Industries Ltd, Tanzania Portland Cement PLC, Lake Cement Co. Ltd, Mbeya Cement Co. Ltd, and Tanga Cement PLC.
Additionally, the sector has created 12,500 jobs, of which 5,220 are direct and 17,280 are indirect.
