THE National Chairman of the People’s Liberation Party (CHAUMMA), Hashimu Rungwe, has declared that the party is determined to take over the government in this year’s general election.
Rungwe made the assertion today August 7, 2025 while opening the party’s general congress taking place in Dar es Salaam.
“I assure you that this year we are going to take over the government of this country,” said Rungwe.
The party’s Secretary General, Salumu Mwalimu, reported that by 1 p.m., 357 out of 405 invited delegates had arrived at the venue, representing 86.3 percent..
According to Mwalimu, as of April this year, the party had 2,116 councilor candidates and 183 parliamentary candidates across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Key agenda items at the congress include nominating presidential candidates for the Union and Zanzibar, and launching the party’s manifesto.
Some of the manifesto’s priorities include improving nutrition, abolishing the 12 percent VAT, enacting a new constitution, enhancing the education and health sectors, strengthening accountability, citizen and property security, and improving judicial performance.
